The latest amendments to the Women's Charter are basically to make it
easier for divorced women to enforce maintenance against their ex-
husbands. The govt is afraid that if divorced women couldn't get
their maintenance the govt would have to take money out of their own
pocket for the women. But I understand that when the govt asked for
feedback prior to the amendments, there were people who submitted that
the amendments should also make it easier for men to enforce access to
their children (divorced women commonly give all sorts of excuse not
to let fathers see thier children, and even poison their children's
minds against their father).
But sadly, while making it easier for women to enforce maintenance,
the amendments don't provide for men to get access to their children
more easily and fairly. How come? It's because ours is a money
govt. When there's a possibility that the govt may have to fork out
money for divorced women, it works hard and fast to come up with
something to protect itself. But when it comes to men's access to
their children it's you die, your business -- because there's no
danger that the govt has to fork out money for the men. Ours is truly
a money-faced govt.
