With the PAP Government insisting to interfere into every aspects of personal Life of every Singaporean living in Singapore, is there any Life left for ourselves to take charge of ?
The PAP Cabinet insisted to enfore the infamous ‘Stop-at-TWO Family Planning’ policy in the mid-1960s through the 1970s, interfered in the number of applicants to tertiary education with the ‘Suitability Certificate’ policy, then played with the quota that each annual intake is allowed for either Medicine, Engineering or the Arts – while removing Political Science as a specialty subject from the courses conducted at the NUS.
The interference of the PAP did not stop at the tertiary level of education, as it moved to ensure all public and missionary schools follow a uniformed syllabus, and subjected to common examinations that resulted in the schools being no better then a production line for human labor to serve commerce and industry – instead of educating and inculcating ethos in the young minds.
With the deep seated insecurity of LKY towards the Trade Union movement, he schemed for control over all trade union activists, and forced the merger of all labor movement under the NTUC, which he insisted on having a monolithic grip – that resemble a Communist State complete with the NTUC Secretary-General becoming a full Minister even if it is a Minister-without-Portfolio.
The PAP Cabinet decision to enlarge its influence over Singaporean life moved into the areas of commerce and industry, when it decided that the State should embark on being a Capitalist as it believe that the State controlled businesses “more efficient” in delivering the goods and services to Singaporeans.
Instead of nationalising all businesses, the PAP Cabinet dubiously enforced legislations that force businesses to upgrade or lose their license to operate – this affected the various public transport industry in that was serving Singaporeans well since the 1920s through the 1950s, with the various privately owned and managed bus and taxi companies serving different parts of the islands.
The PAP Cabinet did not stop at the micro-managing the life of Singaporeans but went further in macro-managing the lifestyle, the social and cultural aspects, redefining how, where and who Singaporeans should live and work – as it work to achieve its goal of having 90 percent of Singaporeans to be captive residents living in HDB estates, and subject to its influence and control.
It sets wage levels, bonuses, CPF contribution through some dubious Tripartite Partnership – that are supposedly representing the Government, Employer and the Labor Movement – which unfortunately end up with the PAP dictating changes to Singaporean stake holders without any consultation – as it dominate all the positions that it create and falsely promote to be fair and representative for all.
When one casually listen to the innocuous goals first propounded by the PAP Government, it seems grand and uplifting to the community; however, when one lives within the system that its supposedly innocuous goals set out to achieve, it turned out to be completely dubious and nefariously self-serving.
MG Chan is no more then a puppy flirting with a solution that he believe is for a simple issue, when the issue alone is part of a problem caused by the entire system that the PAP had created over 45 years since 1965.
